The Grand Andean Experience

The Grand Andean Experience is a 10-day journey that combines an exploration of the Sacred Valley and Lares regions with a 7-day Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu.

This once-in-a-lifetime journey into the sacred havens of the Incas is equal parts physical, cultural, and spiritual. The combination of inspiring hikes through magnificent landscapes and a unique immersion into traditional Andean culture will afford you a profound understanding of what makes this region and its history so remarkable.

DAY 0 EVENING BRIEFING IN CUSCO

Location: El Mercado - one of our signature hotels located just 3 blocks from the Plaza de Armas, Cusco’s main town square.

    DAY 1 EXPLORING PISAQ

    Morning visit to the Pisaq market followed by an optional trek through the adjacent valley. Excursion to the Viacha community for a traditional Pachamanca lunch. Afternoon exploration of the Pisaq archaeological complex.

          DAY 4 DISCOVERING OLLANTAYTAMBO

          Morning explorations of the Ollantaytambo and Quillarumiyoc archaeological sites followed by a picnic lunch. Early afternoon stop in the village of Mollepata before an option hike to Salkantay Lodge.

              In the afternoon: After marveling at the majesty of the Salkantay Peak & patting yourselves on the back for a job well-done, enjoy lunch on the mountain before heading down to Wayraccmachay

                    Travel uphill to the Llactapata Pass for a seldom-seen view of Machu Picchu. Lunch en route followed by a descent to the Aobamba river. Train to Aguas Calientes (30 mins). Overnight in Aguas Calientes.

                    In the morning: Travel uphill through the cloud forest to the Llactapata Pass for a seldom-seen view of Machu Picchu.
                    In the afternoon: Lunch en route followed by a winding descent to the Aobamba River valley, ending the day with a 30 minute train ride to Aguas Calientes

                        Mountain Lodges of Peru is proud to offer guests on our 5- and 7-day Sacred Valley and Lares Adventure the option to incorporate a one-day hike along Peru’s Classic Inca Trail. Starting the hike at KM 104 and arriving on foot at the ruins of Machu Picchu via the citadel’s iconic Sun Gate just above.

                         

                         

                        ITINERARY

                        5:30 am Breakfast at the hotel in Sacred Valley.

                        6:30 am Depart hotel for a 30 min. transfer to Ollantaytambo train station and embark on a 1.5 hour train ride to KM 104.

                        9:30 am Cross the Chachabamba bridge to begin your hike. Ascend to Wiñay Wayna, an archaeological complex featuring ancient houses, fountains, and agricultural terraces overlooking the Urubamba river. Continue on to the Sun Gate for your first glimpse of Machu Picchu.

                        4:00 pm Enjoy spectacular views as you descend along the perimeter of the citadel to catch the shuttle bus to Aguas Calientes. (Note: Hikers will not explore the citadel until the group visit the following day.).

                        4:30 pm Board the shuttle bus and arrive at the Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel by approximately 5:00 p.m.

                         

                        Please note:

                        / The full-day KM 104 hike will replace the standard route offered on Day 4 of the 5-Day and Day 6 of the 7-Day Sacred Valley and Lares Adventure.

                        / This activity must be booked at least 60 days prior to departure date in order to secure trail permits and are subject to availability. (Only 250 permits issued per day.)

                        / Trail permits do not include same day visitation to the citadel of Machu Picchu.

                        / A guide must accompany all hikers with groups growing no larger than 16 guests.

                        KM 104: ONE DAY INCA TRAIL TO MACHU PICCHU

                        Mountain Lodges of Peru is proud to offer guests on our 5- and 7-day Sacred Valley and Lares Adventure the option to incorporate a one-day hike along Peru’s Classic Inca Trail. Starting the hike at KM 104 and arriving on foot at the ruins of Machu Picchu via the citadel’s iconic Sun Gate just above.

                         

                         

                        ITINERARY

                        5:30 am Breakfast at the hotel in Sacred Valley.

                        6:30 am Depart hotel for a 30 min. transfer to Ollantaytambo train station and embark on a 1.5 hour train ride to KM 104.

                        9:30 am Cross the Chachabamba bridge to begin your hike. Ascend to Wiñay Wayna, an archaeological complex featuring ancient houses, fountains, and agricultural terraces overlooking the Urubamba river. Continue on to the Sun Gate for your first glimpse of Machu Picchu.

                        4:00 pm Enjoy spectacular views as you descend along the perimeter of the citadel to catch the shuttle bus to Aguas Calientes. (Note: Hikers will not explore the citadel until the group visit the following day.).

                        4:30 pm Board the shuttle bus and arrive at the Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel by approximately 5:00 p.m.

                         

                        Please note:

                        / The full-day KM 104 hike will replace the standard route offered on Day 4 of the 5-Day and Day 6 of the 7-Day Sacred Valley and Lares Adventure.

                        / This activity must be booked at least 60 days prior to departure date in order to secure trail permits and are subject to availability. (Only 250 permits issued per day.)

                        / Trail permits do not include same day visitation to the citadel of Machu Picchu.

                        / A guide must accompany all hikers with groups growing no larger than 16 guests.
